The Challenge

Mum reached out feeling worn out and uncertain, as little Hazel was struggling to sleep. Hazel was fighting naps and only managing short 40-minute stretches, leaving both of them exhausted. Nighttime wasn’t much better, with frequent wake-ups replacing the 1-2 overnight feedings they used to have.

For three months, Hazel had only napped in mum’s arms, and while it was a comforting bond, mum was craving time to rest and recharge while Hazel slept. After trying a few things on her own without success, mum realised she needed guidance and clarity around baby sleep expectations.

The Solution

This approach wasn’t about forcing change, but about empowering Hazel to learn at her own pace, helping her to lengthen naps in the bassinet without needing extra assistance.

In every step of this process, my focus was on creating a nurturing environment where both mum and baby could thrive. The ultimate goal was for mum to feel more confident and empowered in her parenting while Hazel developed the independent sleep skills she needed for longer, more restful nights.

The Outcome

After our time together, Hazel was happily settling into her bassinet for longer, more restorative naps. Using a settling approach that matched her temperament, she learned to link her sleep cycles, enjoying peaceful two-hour lunch naps.

Overnight, Hazel began sleeping in 7-hour stretches, waking just once or twice for a feed. This shift gave both mum and baby the rest they needed.

Mum felt empowered and rested, finding a new balance between a well-rested baby and her active, social life. With a deeper understanding of wake windows and settling methods, she confidently adapted to life on the go, knowing she could support Hazel’s sleep wherever they were.
